THE HARM IN WESTERN PSYCHOLOGY

Last November, an ABPsi Special Interest Group (SIG) comprised of students, early career and seasoned professionals, and Elders worked to correct the record on the harm of western psychology. The ABPsi Board of Directors adopted an official statement in concert with the SIG to ensure that we tell our own story.

As we consider the next steps, we’d like your input. How have you seen western psychology harm people of African Descent? For example:

• Deficit-oriented research
• Anti-Black philosophical assumptions
• Harmful uses of psychological testing
