COVID-19 Updates

Hotep, ABPsi Family and Friends,

These past few weeks have been stressful and challenging for many of us as we contend with COVID-19. Unfortunately, we as a country and society do not have a clear roadmap to address the varying needs, especially within our community. The Association of Black Psychologists, Inc. (ABPsi) is committed to the personal health of each member - physical, mental, spiritual.

As the 52nd Annual Convention gets closer, we are carefully watching updates for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We are working closely with the local Detroit Chapter of ABPsi to ensure that our safety is a top priority. Currently, Detroit is in a "Stay Home, Stay Safe" Executive Order by the governor through April 13th.

While we are still months away from the convention, we must prepare now for different scenarios. Over the next two weeks, members of the National Convention Committee (NCC) will be working with ABPsi Leadership to determine the next steps. To date, the convention is scheduled to proceed as originally planned (July 22nd - 26th).

Through this website, you can: submit to the call for papers, complete hotel registration, and receive updates regarding COVID-19. Soon, you will be able to complete your convention registration.

As ABPsi follows guidelines implemented by the United States Government and CDC, we ask for your patience. Further, as we endeavor to have a 2020 convention, it will only be done with the full confidence that our members will not be placed in harm's way.

In closing, we are people of incredible strength, power, and intelligence. Just like every other challenge, we will successfully overcome this - together.

In the African spirit of Aya,

YIT

National Convention Chair

As the 52nd Annual Convention gets closer, we want you to know that the safety and well-being of our ABPsi family is a priority.

The ABPsi Leadership is closely monitoring the latest developments and following the guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) related to COVID-19.

We are working with Public Health officials in the Detroit Metro Area alongside the local Detroit Chapter of ABPsi. Given the mid-summer timing of the convention, we will continue with planning an exciting and engaging convention at the Crown Plaza Hotel in downtown Detroit. As things evolve, we will keep you updated.

As practitioners of health and wellness, we know how stressful times like this can be. You can be a voice of calm and reason in your community as we all face this challenge.

For additional information about COVID-19, please read the latest report from the Centers for Disease Control at www.cdc.gov, or your local health department website.

On behalf of ABPsi, thank you for your trust in us. I look forward to seeing you in Detroit.

In your service,

Theopia Jackson, Ph.D
